The contrasts of fluorescence with muted colours and diffuse areas with opaque paint relate to the dual worlds in the novel; one being the chaotic, surreal landscape of the Hardboiled Wonderland, filled with techno-noir elements, and the other, the dreamlike, tranquil setting of the End of the World, where shadows and lost memories intertwine. The vibrant purples and pinks can symbolize the emotional intensity of existence in these two realms as the protagonist struggles to grasp the essence of idealized visions while confronting their decay in the real world.
