Moon-Sky Pool
Moon-Sky Pool
In this series I worked in black and white so that I could push composition, texture, visual language and painting in a freer style, without the seductions of colour.
I learnt the beauty of grey in its various warm and cool tones, patterns, contrasts, soft veils of white and the chalky opaque. Most of all, I was able to paint with energy, intuition and allowing for a rawness.
Moon-Sky Pool began with dense patterns and ripples made by dragging and manipulating the paint but once the swimming pool arrived with its luminescent suggestion of a generator or water tank, I was satisfied with the more simple design. With its dark edges, it feels to me pulsing and humming and enclosed as a pool at night. The sensation of a pool at night reminds me of a state sometimes felt when the soul seems to commune on another wavelength.
