In this series I worked in black and white so that I could push composition, texture, visual language and painting in a freer style, without the seductions of colour.

I learnt the beauty of grey in its various warm and cool tones, patterns, contrasts, soft veils of white and the chalky opaque. Most of all, I was able to paint with energy, intuition and allowing for a rawness.

Birth Chart is a depiction of the elements of an astrological chart. The cylindrical forms represent the self and shadow. The orbs represent the luminaries (sun and moon), planets and other objects that in astrology relate to the organizing principle of the psyche.
